Charan
Gill, MBE, Receives Further Royal Recognition
Entrepreneur
Dr Charan Gill, MBE, recently received further royal recognition when
he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by His Royal Highness the
Duke of Edinburgh.
At a ceremony
at St James's Palace in London, the former restaurateur and now
property developer accepted the award in recognition of his
inspirational business career, his indomitable entrepreneurial spirit
and his contribution to the restaurant trade in Scotland, where he is
popularly known as the Curry King.
The
prestigious award was made under the auspices of the City &
Guilds organisation, the UK's leading charity for work-related
qualifications, of which Prince Philip is president. Dr Gill began
his working life in Glasgow's shipyards, where he gained distinctions
in a number of City & Guilds engineering qualifications. |
He was told
that the Certificate was awarded to individuals who have "trodden
the City & Guilds path" and who, having already
demonstrated notable achievement, are likely to continue their
contribution to their chosen fields.
David Young,
City & Guilds chairman, said: "Charan is a shining example
that anything can be achieved if one is prepared to work hard enough."
Dr Gill said:
"I am delighted to have received this award and am particularly
gratified that Prince Philip has recognised that, with a pinch of
inspiration and drive, anything is possible."
