Restaurant Wins Another Award To Add To Its Crown

The Crown at Whitebrook, the Michelin Star winning restaurant with rooms in Monmouthshire, has won another award to add to its growing and impressive list of accolades.

The Les Routiers organisation, after extensive and exhaustive assessment, has judged The Crown at Whitebrook national winner in the category of Restaurant of the Year.

This award joins a growing collection of accolades attributed to the restaurant since Director Jonathan Davies bought The Crown in December 2003. So far this year Head Chef James Sommerin has achieved Wales' only new 2007 Michelin Star to go alongside The Crown's two AA rosettes, a star in Egon Ronay's 2007 guide to the best restaurant and gastro pubs in the UK, inclusion into the AA Premier Collection, Visit Wales 5 Stars and an award by The Observer Magazine's as Wales' top restaurant.

The Les Routiers awards, one of the best recognised in the industry, acknowledges members who consistently excel at meeting the standards required for membership of the organisation. These standards include individuality, friendliness, a welcoming and comfortable environment, and above all, best value for money.

The 2007 Les Routiers guide observes "the modern British and French dishes are elegantly presented and big on flavour&ldots;the food here is complemented by an extensive and interesting wine list. There are eight plain, but stylish rooms."

James Sommerin, who has been Head Chef at the restaurant for four years, said: "This is another wonderful achievement for us and the result of many years of hard work in the kitchen. I am particularly pleased Les Routiers have noted our preference for using locally produced food, which is of the highest quality."

Michael Obray, General Manager, commented: "We consistently strive to maintain high standards at The Crown, whether we are aiming for an award or not. Achieving the Michelin Star and more recently, the award by Les Routiers, has been a tremendous encouragement after all the hard work which has been invested in achieving excellence on a daily basis."

Jonathan Davies added: "This is another example and evidence of the sheer dedication the team at The Crown has put into making the restaurant as successful as it is to date."

The Crown at Whitebrook kitchen brigade under the leadership of James Sommerin (Chef De Cuisine) is Richard Broughton (Sous Chef), Michael Hendry (Chef De Partie) and Stephen Wilson (Demi Chef De Partie). They are supported Front of House by General Manager Michael Obray, Vickie Smith (Restaurant Supervisor) and Alex Pastrav (Sommelier).

As well as offering the finest cuisine, the Crown at Whitebrook also offers exquisite accommodation with eight luxury bedrooms.

The Les Routiers Guide is priced at £12.99.
