Kerala Wine Matching Festival
At Café Spice

The Café Spice Namaste in Aldgate offered a Kerala wine pairing festival evening earlier this month to complement traditional Asian cuisine dishes.

The object of the evening, on 5 June, was to absorb guests in traditions and to show the diversity of South Indian food.

Staff were dressed in traditional clothes from India and guests were lightly showered with rose water as they arrived at the restaurant.

The 90-cover restaurant was surrounded with candles, traditional floor markings, lamps and flowers.

Chef Cyrus Todiwala focused on serving south Indian dishes, as well as more British ingredients. Average spend was £49 for four courses including wine.

Todiwala said: "Few people realise that wines marry well with Asian cuisine. Contrary to popular belief, often the spice in Asian food only serves to enhance the flavour of the wine and this evening's event has opened many people's eyes."

Wines were from New Zealand winery 'CJ Pask'.

Café Spice will also be hosting a second Kerala festival event in partnership with 'India Now', hosted with the Greater London Authority, on 8 August.
