Las Iguanas
opens in Old Spitalfields Market

Las Iguanas has chosen the vibrant and fashionable market quarter of Spitalfields for its 3rd site in London.

Old Spitalfields Market, in Tower Hamlets, has benefited from a commercially-sensitive regeneration programme and contemporary new units now nestle alongside an eclectic array of stallholders that are keeping the traditional market alive in the heart of this borough.

It's home to a flourishing creative community and is a place to discover hidden gems of fashion, arts and interiors as you wander through streets steeped in history but recently immersed in cutting edge style.

Las Iguanas' new site enjoys a great overview of this exciting area from a glass-roofed first floor terrace. The restaurant and bar inhabits a total of 4,300 sq ft and seats 180 on the ground floor and 100 on the terrace.

With successful sites established at the Royal Festival Hall and at the O2, Las Iguanas' commercial director Ajith Jaya-Wickrema said that Old Spitalfields Market was a very exciting prospect. "This area is thriving with just the right balance of business and pleasure. The specialist markets and beautiful shops bring in an impressive numbers of visitors, and it's just a great area to stroll around in and work up an appetite."

The menu at Las Iguanas is inspired by authentic regional dishes from Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Argentina, including Seviche (lobster, seared yellow fin tuna & crayfish in mango, ginger and citrus marinade), Xinxim (Brazilian lime chicken), Moqueca (coconut and tomato curry, pictured left), fajitas with various fillings (Rib-eye steak, Lemon chicken or Shitake, Oyster and Portobello mushroom and leek) and flame-grilled sea bass with salad and a choice of Chimichurri sauce or garlic and chilli butter.

A tasty Tapas selection includes mouth watering fresh brie and mango tortilla parcel on mango salsa and split tiger prawns in lemon and chilli butter with freshly baked bread and crisp cassava-coated chicken with Brazilian hot sauce. Las Iguanas serve up a light lunch/early evening express menu, great fiesta menus for friends to share, imaginative food for children - and everything is cooked fresh to order.

For those looking for a drink with a difference the Cachaçaria (spirit bar) specializes in traditional Brazilian cocktails made with Las Iguanas Magnifica. This house brand Cachaça is distilled from sugarcane grown on Las Iguanas' own plantation just outside Rio. A fearsome spirit by itself, it's delicious served with crushed lime and sugar in Las Iguanas' signature Caipirinha.

Las Iguanas in Old Spitalfields Market opens to the public on 18th July and will be the 18th site in the UK for this independently-owned group.
