Tommy Miah
Opens Chai Bari

The Chai Bari (Tea House) marks completion of the first phase of transforming the Elena Hotel in Islington ( 336 Essex Road, N1) into the Raj Hotel.

Unfortunately there is not space in a London street for the trademark of the Original Raj Hotel in Edinburgh, a five-ton white marble Elephant on the terrace to welcome guests.

Instead, the Chai Bari offers the traditional sub-continent greeting, drawing on a heritage of tea-growing and roadside cafes in Bangladesh.

Its tea menu will feature a wide range of green, black, flavoured, masala, herbal and other specialties, complemented by simple, healthy, fresh snacks.

The new addition to the upmarket Raj Hotel Group, created by master chef Tommy Miah, offers a relaxing environment where tea enthusiasts can enjoy their favourite beverage. The Chai Bari will revolutionise tea-drinking culture, making tea a must-have sophisticated experience.
