Las
Iguanas defies the economic downturn by opening its 22nd restaurant
at the Oracle in Reading at the beginning of July.
The
new site is more than 300 sq m inside, with a large external piazza
boosting total covers to 200.
Architects
Fusion DNA will be importing the group's trademark design features
to good effect in this spacious interior, with floor to ceiling
six-metre telegraph poles supporting secondary beams and ceiling
rafts. A timber slat wall with decorated internal boxes filled with
artisan objects and photo walls featuring landmark South American
scenes contribute to the visual appeal.
The
menu is inspired by regional dishes from across Latin America and
all the food is freshly prepared to order. The restaurant is renowned
for sizzling gourmet fajitas and delicious grills while the bar
specialises in cocktails made with Cachaça - a truly authentic
Latin spirit that Las Iguanas produces and imports from its own sugar
cane plantation outside Rio.
Commercial
director Ajith Jaya Wickrema said: "We have had our eye on
the Oracle for a few years now and have watched it evolve into a
really exciting day and night-time destination. There's a good blend
of quality brand names and intrepid independents in this area and Las
Iguanas' presence can only enhance the mix."
"While
the industry as a whole is being affected by the unfavourable
economic climate, Las Iguanas is in a strong position to continue its
expansion. Reading is definitely ready for Las Iguanas' good value,
great quality offering - and some pure escapism from the gloom of the recession."
