Australian State Seeking Chefs

UK is not the only place looking overseas for staff. Chefs, nurses and tradespeople are being recruited by the Australian State of Victoria with a $6 million Government push in a bid to attract more skilled migrants to regional communities currently experiencing skill and labour shortages.

Victoria's capital, Melbourne is blessed with a temperate climate and enjoys one of the lowest rainfalls of Australian capital cities. It's spectacular combination of old and new architecture, elegant streetscapes, cultural activities, ethnic communities and lavish parks ensure its reputation as the World's Most Liveable City.

The newly-arrived workers will benefit from the roll-out of new support services to help them settle into their new life.

Minister for Employment and Youth Affairs, Jacinta Allan, said: "Many industries in Melbourne and regional Victoria are finding it difficult to fill trades, allied health and food industry vacancies. Skilled migration can be part of the solution.

"This funding will help promote Victoria to potential skilled migrants through international expos and media campaigns highlighting the diversity of our regions.

"We will also boost our online visa sponsorship and job application services on the Live in Victoria website, which attracts about 50,000 visitors a month. (www.LiveInVictoria.vic.gov.au)

"Victoria attracts more overseas migrants than any other part of Australia, with one in every three migrants to Australia choosing Victoria as their new home.
