See in the
Thai New Year celebrating Songkran with 3 days of festivities at
Fulham's Blue Elephant from 13th - 15th April 2006.
Songkran is
the traditional Thai New Year which starts on April 13th and lasts
for three days. It is also known as the 'Water Festival' as water is
used to wash away any bad luck. This year the Blue Elephant will be
celebrating Songkran from 13th - 15th April in its own imitable
fashion with a special three course set menu priced at £30 along
with authentic decorations and traditional Thai dancing.
From an
imposing hand-made pyramid made of banana leaves at the entrance of
the restaurant guests will be asked to select a sai-sin, a sacred
white cord that is tied around the wrist to keep out evil spirits and
bring good luck. Then, as is the Thai custom at Songkran, guests will
also be invited to sprinkle jasmine perfumed water over Buddha statue
to wash him and help cool him down in what is an extremely hot time
of year in Thailand.
Proceeding
through to the restaurant diners will have a choice of the full
à la carte or the delicious 'Songkran Festival' set menu
boasting dishes such as, seared yellow fin tuna served on a bed of
mixed salad with green mustard dressing and chilli sauce, pan fried
beef with spicy basil leaf sauce, salmon soufflé and water
chestnut and jack fruit in a sweet coconut sauce with coconut sorbet.
A special 'Songkran Festival' vegetarian menu shall also be available.
'Sawasdee
Pee-Mai!' or 'Happy New Year!'
