Curry Chef Takes Title For A Second Time |
CURRY
connoisseurs were in their element this week at the hotly contested
Oldham Curry Chef of the Year competition.
The annual
contest was held at Oldham College on Tuesday with ten finalists from
across the borough trying to literally curry favour with the judging
panel. The judges, including the Mayor of Oldham Cllr Kay Knox, were
given expert guidance by TV chef Aazam Ahmed. They confessed their
decision to choose a winner and two runners up was a close call and
not easy to make.
After much
deliberation, the Ashiqee in Middleton Road, Chadderton, was named as
best curry kitchen for the second year in succession, with chef
Gurviender Sethi cooking up a storm. Gurviender, from Delhi, said:
"This is a fantastic moment for me. I feel great." Sozzadur
Rahman of Prithiraj in Westwood came in second, while Abdul Hay from
Saffron Cuisine in Failsworth took third.
Frank
Rothwell, from organisers Oldham Business Gateway, said: "Events
like these bring people together. When that happens everyone is a
winner. At the end of the day it came down to personal preference as
there was such a large variety of flavours."
