According
to Business Magazine, Cobra, the British beer maker, has received
approaches from some of the world's biggest brewers who are
interested in buying the business.
Karen
Bilimoria, the recently en-nobled entrepreneur who owns 70% of the
company's equity, had intended to float Cobra but told The Business
last week: "I have had a number of approaches and have a
responsibility to make the right decision for the business - I am not
wedded to a float."
Carlsberg, the
brewing giant, is known to be looking for takeover targets to
strengthen its position in the UK and is known to have looked at
Cobra before, and two years ago SAB Miller, the £17bn (E25.2bn,
$33.4bn) drinks to gaming group, also looked at Cobra.
In an
unconnected item it is also understood that Cobra marketing director
Simon Edwards is no longer with the company, although this has so far
not been substantiated by Cobra.
