Critically
acclaimed Thai restaurant, Mango Tree, will be hosting a medley of
events from all over Thailand to celebrate Song Kran.
Performances and rituals unique
to Thailand will be part of the entertainment for guests dining at
Mango Tree from the 9th - 13th April. From the ancient Kingdom of
Lana in the North to the Pearl of the Andaman Sea in the South,
experience a royal parade and witness a tradition celebrating the
cross-cultural Thai-Malay heritage, taking place every day 7pm to 10.30pm.
In addition to the extensive a la
carte menu, there will also be a 'Khan Tok' and Street Food Festival
menu. The Khan Tok eating style originates from the North of
Thailand; the Tok is a container made from teak wood and shaped by a
lathe in which the food is served.
Created by Executive Chef, Mark
Read, the Khan Tok menu, only available for the duration of Song
Kran, comprises small mouth-watering individual dishes such as Gaeng
Mussaman (mussaman curry with oxtail) and Goong Hom Pla (crispy prawn
tail served with sweet chilli sauce).
The Street Food Festival takes
place between the 7th - 27th April, and showcases local cuisine at
its finest, including popular delicacies such as Silom Road
(chargrilled corn-fed chicken leg marinated in Thai herbs served with
a crispy vegetable salad and sticky rice), Bang Lump Poo (stewed pork
noodle soup with bean sprouts and fresh coriander) and Sathorn Road
(cassava root grilled and served in a light sweet syrup), all named
after actual streets in Bangkok where the dishes were first created!
The Khan Tok menu is available
from @ £20 per head, £2 of which will be donated to Cancer
Research UK. Thai airways and Chang Beer are official sponsors of
Mango Tree's Song Kran festival celebrations.
