World
class restaurant brand wagamama is to open its first restaurant in
Wales at Mermaid Quay, the high profile waterfront retail and leisure
destination in Cardiff Bay.
wagamama has taken a 468 sq m
(5,038 sq ft), first floor unit, seating up to 110 people and
featuring stunning views of the iconic Wales Millennium Centre, the
hugely successful arts & entertainment complex.
The arrival of wagamama is a
major coup for Mermaid Quay owner Schroders, which has spent the last
two years repositioning the scheme with the aim of attracting this
sort of high quality operator. wagamama's presence further cements
Mermaid Quay's reputation as one of Wales's premier dining
destinations. More than 20 restaurants, cafés and bars operate
successfully in the scheme, with many turning over an average in
excess of £30,000 a week.
Fitting out works are underway
and wagamama's first pan-Asian inspired restaurant in Wales is
scheduled to open in April.
Strong competition for space in
the scheme has contributed to a steady rise in rental values from
£25 per sq ft to the current £40 per sq ft over a five-year period.
Other major names already in the
14,000 sq m (150,000 sq ft) scheme include Strada, Café Rouge,
Castle Galleries, Starbucks and Pizza Express.
