Curry King Charan Gill Launches Care for a Curry? Campaign

In a busy month, Curry King Charan Gill, MBE has launched the Care for a Curry? campaign - a new way of raising money for dementia in Scotland.

The official launch of Care for a Curry?, the new flagship fundraising initiative of leading dementia charity Alzheimer Scotland, is scheduled for Thursday 15th May with an evening of fine Indian dining in the Chubara Indian Restaurant at the Quay complex in Musselburgh, when funds will be raised for the cost of specialist dementia nurses.

But Charan has already got the campaign off to a flying start at the Curry Karaoke Club by announcing that he has sponsored two dementia nurses at a cost of £500 each - which will pay for a whole week of specialised dementia care.

Said Charan, "I've always admired the good work undertaken by Alzheimer Scotland and its campaigns to help people with dementia and their carers, so when I heard about its Care for a Curry? campaign I knew I had to get involved!

"The message of the campaign is simple - keep your brain tickin' with Jalfrezi chicken!"

Alzheimer Scotland Chief Executive Jim Jackson added, "The Care for a Curry? campaign is about using the great Scottish love affair with fiery foods from far-off lands as a means to help people with dementia and their carers by supporting Alzheimer Scotland."

Moira Lawrance, Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer Scotland is keen to get everyone involved. "We want to get people together to enjoy a blether over a Balti, go on the ran-dan with a Rogan Josh or have a ceilidh with their Korma," she said. "You could have an intimate Pakora Party in your house, a night out with the lads to see who's the Vindaloo Victor or get your workmates involved by having a Tikka Tuesday in the canteen."

Tickets for the official launch of Care for a Curry? on Thursday 15th May at the Quay complex in Musselburgh are available on 0845 2600 789 or via careforacurry@alzscot.org. Further information can be found at www.careforacurry.org. Tickets are priced at £40 per person, which includes a complimentary drink on arrival, delicious three course meal and tea or coffee. There will be a raffle on the night, as well as a luxury prize auction.
