An
Indian restaurant in West Wales was recently named Welsh Curry House
of the Year 2008.
The Sheesh Mahal in Llanelli was
named the best of Wales' 260 Indian restaurants and was given its
award by Assembly Presiding Officer and curry enthusiast Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas.
Having been earlier named the
best Indian restaurant in Mid and West Wales, the Sheesh Mahal was
one of three finalists in a ceremony at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.
The other two were the Asha Balti
House in Llanrwst and the Nawab Tandoori Restaurant in Swansea.
"The tradition of Indian
restaurants here in Wales is now long established and is part of the
nation's menu. The fact we have 260 Indian restaurants in Wales is
testament to the popularity of Indian food," said Lord Elis Thomas.
Berwyn Rowlands of the Festivals
Company, the competition's organiser, said, "Plans are
already in development for next year's competition which will once
again celebrate the love affair between Wales and Indian food."
