Green light go-ahead as
YO! Sushi adopts FSA's
traffic light labelling system

Dedicated in helping customers sustain a healthy balanced diet, YO! Sushi has produced a nutritional booklet for its recipes incorporating the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) traffic light labelling approach. This marks a revolutionary move - YO! Sushi is the first restaurant group to adopt such a labelling approach. YO! Sushi's Heath & Hygiene Manager, Ian Turner announces:

"YO! Sushi's decision to adopt the FSA's colour coded traffic light approach in our nutritional booklet is yet another sign of our on-going commitment in helping our customers enjoy a yummy yet nutritious and balanced meal. Complementing our freshly prepared Japanese inspired dishes, this 'at-a-glance' nutritional system will be an additional benefit to all our health-conscious customers."

The FSA's traffic light labelling approach can help customers in choosing between products, keeping a check on the amounts of foods high in fat, saturated fat, sugars and salt consumed. By displaying how much of each nutrient is in a portion (the YO! Sushi nutritional booklet should be treated as a guideline only and the colours for the traffic light labelling approach is based on the FSA's guidelines per 100g of food), this allows customers to compare these figures and choose the one that is lower to make that healthier choice.

What do the traffic light colours mean?

* A red light means the food is high in something customers should be trying to cut down - however it is fine to consume the food occasionally, eating it in smaller amounts or as a treat.

* An amber light means the food isn't high or low in the nutrient so is an 'OK' choice most of the time, however for some of the time, customers may want to go for a green light for that nutrient.

* A green light means the food is low in that specific nutrient therefore the more green lights, the healthier the choice!

As well as displaying the traffic light colours and nutritional figures for each dish, the nutritional booklet provides a quick guide to customers with a food intolerance or allergy, for example indicating if the dish is soya or gluten and wheat free.

With the FSA continuing to recommend consumers to eat at least one portion of oil rich fish a week (as it is high in Omega 3) and at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day, we suggest you come and feast your eyes and tummies on a colourful, nutritional and healthy balanced diet at YO! Sushi!
