The
Curry Tree, the new Charitable Fund for National Curry Week launch
recently is already enjoying a strong flow of pledges to its website
at www.thecurrytree.com.
Aimed at the 23 million people
who enjoy curry in Britain, the "Pledge a pound" campaign
was initially launch to over one hundred top Asian restaurants all
around the country asking them to support the campaign and to pass
the message on to at least three other possible members.
Peter Grove, founder of National
Curry Week and the new charitable fund said, " We are really
excited about this campaign as we really hope it will lead to raising
a large charitable fund which will be allocated each year by the
Trustees to worthy causes and national disasters in the sub continent.
"I realise there are
crippling demands on our income at present but I cannot believe the
9000 plus Indian restaurants in Britain, who are so well known for
charitable efforts, will say no to pledging just £1 per year -
less than the price of two poppadoms. If they then recommend The
Curry Tree to at least three of their best customers, we are well on
the way."
Restaurateurs and curry lovers
around the country are being asked to pledge £1 which will be
called upon in National Curry Week in November this year. Pledges can
be made at info@thecurrytree.com .
"Nothing should stop us
from helping those who are less fortunate than us." said
Rajesh Suri, CEO of Tamarind. "I think The Curry Tree is a
brilliant idea. I wish you all the luck for a grand success of this
project and I would be delighted to become a Trustee" added
food writer & TV Presenter Mridula Baljekar."
Other Trustess are Cyrus Todiwala
