Husky Crowns Joint Venture Deal With Chef King

Refrigeration specialist, Husky Group and wholesale commercial catering equipment importer and distributor, Chef King have agreed a joint initiative which sees the launch of HCK Limited.

The new venture will position the business as a global provider of commercial catering and refrigeration equipment targeting the hospitality, leisure and retail sectors.

"For over a decade, Chef King has built an extensive UK dealer network for its own-brand and premium product ranges, and has a superlative knowledge of the catering and hotel sectors," said HCK chief executive officer, Geoff Thomasson.

"At the same time, Husky brings an enviable international reputation for product quality, range and technical innovation across the convenience retail and licensed trades."

Husky Technical Services Limited will provide round the clock service, repairs and spare parts distribution for HCK.

Added HCK's chairman, Graham Goforth: "Combining the core strengths of these two successful companies will lead to a formidable and complete foodservice and retail equipment manufacturer and supplier. This can only mean value for money products, increased choice and enhanced service for customers, cost efficiency streamlining for the business, and a secure future for our staff."

For over 50 years, Husky Group has evolved from a refrigeration service company to a full service partner to almost every FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) brand worldwide. It is an international leader in refrigeration sales and service, now with companies in Europe, the US, India, China, South Africa and Australia augmented by an official distributor network in many other countries.

Husky Group designs, manufactures, services - and ultimately disposes effectively - a broad range of chillers, with over 200 model types for commercial and domestic use. It supplies 80% of the UK branded commercial chiller market and holds a strong exclusive niche in the personal refrigeration market.

Chef King distributes its own branded products and those of its partners throughout the commercial catering sector in the UK. It is a major distributor for many leading brands - American Range, Parry, Falcon, Rational, Meiko, Comenda and Classeq.

The Chef King business includes direct sales, targeting independent caterers, a wholesale division that sells to other UK distributors, and a specialist division that undertakes large scale commercial kitchen project installations for local authorities and major building contractors.

Collectively, HCK's product design and manufacturing capability looks set to thrive with new products due for launch and continuing joint venture activity in China, Europe and Scandinavia.

"As well as our existing markets, HCK's growth strategy will target the US - an opportunity equivalent to the whole of Europe and a country in which there are more restaurants, fast food and retail outlets than anywhere else," said Geoff Thomasson.
