Search for UK's Best Wine Educator is Underway
Following
the success of the inaugural 2005 competition, the Comité
Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC) announces the launch of
the 2006 Champagne Ambassadors' Awards, calling all wine educators to
compete to represent the UK in the pan-European finals. From March -
10 July, the Champagne Information Bureau is accepting application
forms that can be downloaded from www.ambassadeurschampagne.com.
Three UK finalists will be selected by a panel of judges based on
their written submissions and will then be invited to compete for the
final selection to vie for the title of European Champagne Ambassador
in Epernay on 20 October 2006.
The UK finals
will be held on Wednesday, 20 September at the Dorchester hotel,
London, where the top-three selected candidates will conduct an
educational presentation to the judging panel of five judges
including Michael Schuster (Professional wine taster and renowned
educator), Gérard Basset MW (world class wine expert and
co-founder of The Hotel du Vin Group), David Wrigley MW (Director of
WSET Awards), Françoise Peretti (Director of Champagne
Information Bureau, UK) and Delphine Geraud (CIVC representative).
The winner will be judged based on knowledge, educational
presentation skills, blind tasting and overall enthusiasm for the
Champagne category.
The UK winner
will then go on to compete in the 2006 European Ambassadors
competition from 16-20 October, culminating in the Gala Awards
ceremony on Friday 20 October. The competition is open to seven other
European finalists from Germany, The Netherlands, France, Spain,
Italy, Switzerland, and Belgium. Candidates will compete to be named
the official European Champagne Ambassador and claim the Grand Prix
and two additional candidates will be awarded the Jury's Special
Prize and the CIVC Prize.
"The
European Champagne Ambassadors' Awards celebrate the passion and
knowledge of Champagne educators", said Françoise
Peretti, Director of the Champagne Information Bureau. "This
competition provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognise and
honour the exceptional wine education in the UK."
The inaugural
2005 competition awarded Cambridge-based Anthony Stockbridge as
winner of the Jury's Special Prize. This year's competition is open
to all wine educators that are residents of the UK
