This year's
Trophée Gosset Celebris will have an international flavour:
the organisers have announced a special "Gagnant des
Gagnants" - a prize for the best list of the past winners in
Belgium, Germany, the UK and Switzerland. The competition has been
run in the UK for six years now and in Belgium for seven.
Establishments
who have previously been awarded the Trophée are being asked
to submit their current wine list for the renewed scrutiny of a
specially invited European judging panel which will convene, in
Paris, in the summer.
Past UK
holders of the Trophée who will be invited to participate in
the international competition include Le Gavroche; Orrery; The
Capital Hotel; The Inn at Whitewell; Fishmarket Restaurant at the
Great Eastern Hotel and The Bell at Skenfrith.
They will be
competing against a range of other prizewinning establishments
including, among others, t Molenje and Léa Linster
Cuisinière in Belgium; Zur Traube and Nesselrode in Germany
and Die Fischerzunft and Restaurant Trianon - Hotel le Mirador in Switzerland.
Commenting on
the change in the competition this year, Beatrice Cointreau, CEO of
Champagne Gosset and creator of the competition says: "Wine
lists are constantly evolving, just like menus do. We thought it
would be interesting to see how our past winners have continued to
develop their interest in and love of champagne since they originally
won. What better way is there to do this than ask them to regroup and
invite an international panel to judge them?"
The winner
will be announced in Champagne in mid September.
