Taste of Birmingham 2006
- The festival of Birmingham's Finest Food, Drink & Music to take place in Cannon Hill Park in 2006

 

Birmingham is getting ready for its first outdoor gourmet food and drink festival, taking place in Cannon Hill Park from Thursday 6th July to Sunday 9th July, 2006.

'Taste of Birmingham', sponsored by Bank of Scotland Corporate, will offer over 15,000 visitors the opportunity to sample signature dishes from 20 of Birmingham's top restaurants as well as those of the country's celebrity chefs, during the four days of the festival.

Set in the al fresco surroundings of Cannon Hill Park, Taste of Birmingham isn't just about sampling mouth-watering dishes, it's a chance to improve culinary skills, watch experts in action and educate one's palate with a range of tasting sessions in a party environment.

Participating restaurants in 'Taste of Birmingham' 2006 include Bank, Del Villaggio, Hotel du Vin, Jonathans', Lasan, Liaison, Le Petit Blanc, Malmaison, Opus, Peppers, San Carlo, Simpsons, Thai Edge, The Oriental and Zinc Bar & Grill.

The 'Central Kitchen' sponsored by Birmingham Bites will be a showcase for the work of high profile celebrity chefs, including Antony Worrall Thompson, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Aldo Zilli, Raymond Blanc and Andreas Antona. Visitors will have the chance to cook with these chefs live and see them in action during demonstrations and tutorials.

Antony Worrall Thompson who celebrated the official launch of the event on Monday 8th May comments: "I am delighted to be involved with a fabulous new 'Taste' event in Birmingham this summer. Having supported the hugely successful Taste of London events for the past two years, I am certain 'Taste of Birmingham' will be a roaring success."

Other show features include The Wine Academy sponsored by Brindleyplace which will be running a daily programme of wine tasting, tutorials and advice on pairing wine with food, from leading wine experts and connoisseurs.

With a host of restaurants showcasing a variety of cuisine from across the globe, food lovers can really taste the world in one city. Everyday the Heart FM entertainment stage, hosted by Heart FM presenters will provide a non-stop programme of fantastic music including X-Factor star Andy Abraham, plus acts from The Birmingham Jazz Festival, celebrating its 22nd year.

Visitors will discover a mouth-watering array of gourmet food suppliers at Taste of Birmingham. They can browse the stalls and try delicious speciality food and ingredients available to buy and enjoy at home. As well as food, Taste of Birmingham offers an amazing array of drinks. Producers will offer fine wines and champagne, speciality beer, largers and ciders, as well as spirits and liqueurs from all around the world.

Taste of Birmingham Restaurant Awards

 'Taste of Birmingham' also sees the launch of 'Taste of Birmingham Restaurant Award. ITV Central will televise an exclusive awards ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson and ITV Central's Joanne Malin at the opening Gala evening of Taste of Birmingham on 6th July. Eight categories will highlight Birmingham as a key destination on the culinary map and will include Best Restaurant of 2006 and a special award for an individual's Outstanding Contribution to Food in Birmingham.
