HThe
curries that we eat in restaurants are often a combination of
traditional recipes from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It is apt
that the name of Edinburgh's newest curry restaurant is a word that
means the same in all three languages. Roughly translated Voujon
means 'invitation to dine', and indeed that is exactly how one feels
when walking into the restaurant in Newington Road.
The modern
elegant interior belies the traditional menu that is on offer
comprising all the typical flavours, colours and aromas of
Bangladesh, Pakistan and Northern India. Voujon is proud to have
Shamim Hussain as their chef, with his extensive experience at
Lancers, Pataka and other award winning restaurants in London. As
well as a full a la carte menu (with vegetarian options), for those
who find making a choice difficult Voujon can also prepare a Complete
Dinner, selected by the chef to suit your taste from starter through
to desserts. Other Voujon specials are the Royal Murgh (serves two
people: a whole spring chicken marinated in a blend of fresh herbs
and spices, served with rive and vegetables and accompanied by boiled
eggs, green salad and other accompaniments - £35.95) or the
Kulji Lamb (serves four people: a whole leg of lamb, butterfried,
marinated in herbs and spices then barbecued. Served with ghee bhat,
pilau rice, your choice of four vegetable dishes, nan and peshwari
nan breads and a choice of desserts - £79.95). Both these dishes
require 24 hours notice.
Selim Miah's
Voujon also has a private room with a table for up twenty people.
There are also
special deals on lunch at £7.50 for two courses and a take-away
menu with free delivery for orders over £15.00. Voujon is open
seven days a week from noon - 2pm and 5.30pm - 11.30pm.
