Aagrah Kashmiri Cuisine Gets A Chinese Take-Away

Fifteen Yorkshire businesses, including the 11-branch Aagrah Group, are due to join a trade mission to China next month - helping to fly the flag for the region at a special 'Yorkshire Week' at the giant World Trade Expo in Hangzhou.

The companies which range from Aagrah restaurant group to a number of local colleges, will spend from 3rd to 10th June visiting Shanghai and Hangzhou, taking in the World Trade Expo - which hosts displays from over 100 major cities and is expected to attract more than 70million visitors over a six month period as well as attending specially arranged one-to-one meetings with Chinese companies ready to do business.

The visit has been organised by Chamber Management Services - based at Bradford Chamber of Commerce - on behalf of Leeds Chamber and sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Aagrah's Managing Director, Mohammed Aslam, hopes the trip would help the group build relations with the business community, attract investment in the UK, and help establish a chain of restaurants in China.

He said: "For some time now I had been considering the Chinese market, but wasn't sure where to start. The trade mission presents an opportunity for businesses visiting the market for the first time to do so with the support from the agencies the Chamber work with. With everything already organised, delegates are able to focus on making important business connections."

Tim Bailey, Manager of Chamber Management Services based at Bradford Chamber and servicing Leeds, York and Bradford, said: "It's a major coup for Yorkshire that we're the only region from the U.K represented at the World Expo and we're delighted to mark the beginning of our partnership with KLM with the mission. We hope it will be the start of many collaborations between us on behalf of Yorkshire businesses."

The trade mission will be supported by a strong civic delegation from Leeds, and from Leeds Chamber, which earlier this year signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hangzhou, twin city to Leeds.
