Gilgamesh Arrives

Gilgamesh is the new arrival set to change the face of London. On June 1st 2006 Gilgamesh will open in the heart of Camden Town Stables Market and promises to offer a unique Eastern gastronomic and entertainment experience. Gilgamesh is a restaurant featuring a fully retractable ceiling, a bar, a lounge and a traditional tearoom all under one roof.

The Gilgamesh restaurant will be operated by none other than Ian Pengelley, formerly of Notting Hill's E&O and the critically acclaimed Pengelley's. He promises to serve an array of Pan-Asian culinary delights, for which he is renowned. Pengelley's very eclectic range of Pan-Asian dishes will include starters such as Gao Choy Dumplings with Shitake Mushrooms, Alaskan King Crab Hand Rolls, Pomelo Banh Trang Rolls and main courses such as Baked Silver Cod in Hoba Leaf, Rock Lobster with Sweet Ginger Noodles and Duck and Watermelon Salad with Cashew Nuts and Sweet Fish Sauce. Thai Banana Parfait with Milk Chocolate Ice Cream and Turmeric Caramel and Chocolate Bento Boxes are just a couple of examples of what to expect from the desert menu. The open kitchen facing the restaurant floor will mean that customers can expect to see culinary stunts from the chefs whilst they dine.

A Sake sommelier will be on hand to advise diners of the 30 different Sakes available on the menu, and to educate as to which Sake grain is most suited to which dish. The restaurant boasts a 40ft high ceiling with a fully retractable roof. The floor to ceiling glass windows give the room an al fresco feel when the roof is completely retracted.

The Lapis stone bar is one of the Gilgamesh main features and is hand-crafted by the same Indian design team responsible for the stunning ancient Babylon interior style throughout the building. The bar's deep wooden base is covered with beautifully intricate hand carved bronzing depicting scenes of Babylon from the Gilgamesh period. Japanese chefs operate the sushi bar at one end where diners can enjoy some of the best sushi and sashimi in London.

The Gilgamesh oriental tearoom will undoubtedly be a destination spot, offering traditional Asian teas complete with tea ceremonies and authentic Asian tea cakes. The low lounge seating coupled with the pure glass walls will entice diners to wile away an afternoon whilst overlooking the hubbub of Camden.

The Babylon Bar is Gilgamesh's VIP area, offering lounge seating, beautiful hanging chairs and its own separate circular bar area.

Gilgamesh, according to legend, was the ancient Babylon king - two thirds God and one third human, and was perceived by all of his time as a superhuman force. This Eastern addition to the Stables, already steeped in history, models the contrasting state of the art architectural design whilst bringing it's own piece of history to the area and bridging the gap of hundreds of thousands of years and offering diners a completely unique experience.
