Kikkoman Tightens Its Grip On Chefs

Kikkoman, maker of the world's biggest selling soy sauce, has launched a new design PET bottle aimed at caterers and frequent users of soy sauce. The 1-litre bottle has a twisted "waist" to make it easier to grip and pour.

Extensive research went into the new bottle shape and size. Said Ben Briody, sales and marketing manager of Kikkoman's UK operation: "Caterers told us a 1-litre pack was their preferred size and they love the practicality of this new bottle, which is very difficult to accidentally drop, even with wet hands."

The new bottle replaces Kikkoman's 1.25 litre PET and 1-litre glass bottles. Says Briody: "Glass is considered a hazard in many kitchens so this new bottle offers maximum convenience and safety. But we also offer a 1.9 litre PET format right across our range of Soy, Teriyaki & Sukiyaki sauces which caterers can choose according to their needs."

The 1-litre PET bottle is the biggest selling format in Japan, where consumption of soy sauce tops 10 litres a year for every man, woman and child, even outstripping sales of Kikkoman's iconic and award-winning 150ml dispenser, developed by Japan's most celebrated industrial designer Kenji Ekuan, designer of the Akita bullet train.

Kikkoman has long been the choice of discerning chefs who appreciate its taste and versatility as an all-purpose seasoning. Kikkoman is made from just four ingredients - soybeans, wheat, salt and water - which are allowed to ferment naturally over several months. There are no artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives.
