Huge Response To Safer Food, Better Business Training From The Chinese Community In Northamptonshire

115 Chinese food businesses in Northamptonshire have attended special training courses aimed at helping small catering businesses comply with EC food hygiene regulations. Food business managers attending the course generally agree that the training and the pack provided will help improve their business and improve customer confidence.

Lynn Betts, Safer Food Better Business Project Officer says "The response from the Chinese community has been excellent and we have had to run a waiting list for courses. We now have courses available for both the Turkish & Bengali communities in Northamptonshire"

The business owners and managers attending the sessions receive training using a series of 'safe method' fact sheets based on the food standard agency's 4 Cs campaign: Cooking, Chilling, Cleaning and Cross-contamination, which detail how key areas of food preparation and handling are dealt with safely. Each business will be given a 'free' Safer Food, Better Business (or SFBB) pack and follow up support by Food Safety Officers to help them work through the fact sheets and set up their own food safety management system.

The special courses called Safer Food, Better Business have been funded by the Food Standards Agency and are provided free of charge to food businesses by a partnership involving all of the local councils in Northamptonshire.

Further courses are planned and the owners of food businesses who would like to attend a training session are encouraged to speak to the SFBB Project Officer Lynn Betts, on tel: 07990 858636
