Staff At Indian Restaurant Arrested In Immigration Swoop

IMMIGRATION officers raided an Indian restaurant in Whitby and arrested six members of staff thought to be working illegally in Britain.

The swoop at the Whitby Tandoori Restaurant and Take Away, in the North Yorkshire resort's train station, was part of ongoing Home Office operations to pick up foreign nationals who have secured employment illegally.

The raid on Tuesday afternoon led to six men, all originally from Bangladesh, being detained. Four are now facing deportation, although two men are seeking asylum.

It is understood that five of the Bangladesh nationals had overstayed legitimate visas they had obtained before entering the country. The sixth man entered the country as an illegal immigrant.
