Liverpool's
Oldest Indian Restaurant Up For Sale
Liverpool's
oldest Indian restaurant in the city centre is closing and has been
put up for sale for the price of nearly 1.3 million pounds.
The
restaurant, known as Asha, first brought curry to Bold Street in
1964. Kolkata-born Dipak Choudhury, who owns the restaurant, and his
wife Chandana live above the premises, but their children are
pursuing careers as barristers and accountants, leaving him with no
choice but to offer his beloved restaurant for sale.
Choudhury
told the local media: 'When I first came to Liverpool, nobody had
even seen an aubergine and hadn't heard of things like green chilli
or coriander.
'Our
customers now are knowledgeable about Indian food, cooking, herbs
and spices, and want to embrace the culture.'
