Wales'
first wagamama restaurant opened at Mermaid Quay, the highly popular
waterfront retail and leisure destination in Cardiff Bay, on 28th
April. Overlooking the world class Wales Millennium Centre, the
opening attracted scores of diners eager to sample wagamama's pan-Asian
inspired cuisine whilst taking in the stunning views from the 110
seat, 468 sq m (5,038 sq ft) first floor unit.
Peter
Cooper Head of Retail Leasing at Schroders commented "Wagamama
brings world class, simple yet sophisticated restaurant design and a
food quality / price combination that is unbeatable. This is one of
the first truly global operators we have secured. Mermaid Quay in
Cardiff now appears in a prestigious list which includes Sydney,
Amsterdam and Dubai, alongside T5 and over 20 locations in London.
The fact that our scheme has been chosen for Wales` first wagamama
speaks volumes. It justifies all the hard work we have put in over
the last two years repositioning Mermaid Quay as Cardiff's premier
dining destination and it underlines the fast track growth of Cardiff
as a capital city. "
Strong
competition for space in the scheme has contributed to a steady rise
in rental values from £25 per sq ft to the current £40 per
sq ft over a five-year period.
Other
major names already trading in the 14,000 sq m (150,000 sq ft)
scheme include Strada, Café Rouge, Gourmet Burger Kitchen,
Castle Galleries, Starbucks and Pizza Express. |
