Paperino's to Open
Third Restaurant
in Glasgow

Lovers of authentic Italian cuisine will be delighted to hear that Paperino's is to open its third restaurant in Glasgow at 78 St Vincent Street, home until recently to the eponymous restaurant previously owned by well-known millionaire bookmaker and businessman Freddie Williams, which fell into liquidation earlier this year.

And in a vote of confidence in the vitality of Glasgow's restaurant sector, the Giovanazzi brothers, who run Paperino's, as well as La Parmigiana - the fine dining restaurant on Great Western Road that holds the distinction of being the oldest Italian restaurant in Glasgow still in the hands of its original owners - now intend to invest a considerable sum in transforming Paperino's @ 78 St Vincent Street, as the new restaurant is to be called, into an intimate and relaxed environment with an emphasis on traditional Italian cuisine in a city centre setting.

When fully operational, Paperino's @ 78 St Vincent Street will create 30 new jobs at the Giovanazzi's burgeoning restaurant empire.

Mark Billington, managing director at Paperino's @ 78 St Vincent Street, said, "We know already that Glaswegian's love the Paperino's offering of freshly made authentic Italian food and we're delighted that we can now extend that offering to them from a prime location in the heart of the city centre at 78 St Vincent Street, just a few hundred yards along from George Square.

"The ambitious refurbishment programme upon which we are now embarking will herald the creation of a bar area at the front of the restaurant and a significant modernisation of the kitchen to the rear to offer a restaurant designed to appeal to business customers, families and friends looking to catch up over a delicious Italian meal.

"As such, Paperino's @ 78 St Vincent Street will combine an extensive range of pasta, pizza and meat and fish dishes along with early morning coffee and pastries."

The 160 cover restaurant will have a ground floor and a mezzanine level with a private room at the rear for dining in a more exclusive setting.

Brothers Stefano and Sandro Giovanazzi opened the original Paperino's in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow in 1991. Renowned for its traditional Italian cuisine, offering an extensive range of pasta, pizza and meat and fish dishes, it quickly established its position as a firm favourite with Glasgow's Italian community. Its success was such that sister restaurant, Paperino's West End, opened at 227 Byres Road four years ago.
