Savoro, a
culinary oasis in High Barnet, is a restaurant serving modern French
food with an occasional Asian twist. Savoro is continuing its mission
to bring sophisticated cuisine to north London with the introduction
of a new winter menu.
In addition to
a range of signature dishes and classics, the independent and
family-owned restaurant is offering a selection of innovative new
dishes served in chic and sophisticated surroundings.
New additions
to the A La Carte menu are starters of deep fried prawns, calamari
and rock oyster tempura with ginger and sweet chilli sauce at
£6.50; tender braised rabbit in port jelly with soft quail egg,
ruby chard and ravigote at £5.95; or pan fried cep and fresh
black truffle risotto at £7.95.
Amongst the
mouthwatering new main courses are roast partridge cooked under bacon
with pearl barley risotto cake and confit of shallot and cider jus at
£15.95; pan-fried hake fillet with potato crust, leek and
pancetta fondue at £16.95; and sun-dried tomato and artichoke
linguine with mascarpone and pumpkin oil at £11.95. The chef's
signature dish - whole lobster casserole with Asian spices, coconut
milk & basmati rice - still features (£29.50).
The grill menu
offers a delicious selection of fresh fish and grilled meat, which is
butchered, aged and hung on the premises. Currently on offer are
Dover Sole, skate, cod, wild halibut steak, beef fillet, marinated
poussin and lamb cutlets from £16.50, all served with pont-neuf
or steamed potatoes, béarnaise or tartare sauce and roasted
tomato.
Good old
fashioned fish and chips also get a look in, but they don't normally
taste this good. Deep fried skate in saffron batter is just perfect
with Savoro's hand-cut, thrice-fried chips.
The dessert
menu has also seen an injection of tempting new treats including
chocolate and walnut tart with coffee and butterscotch sauce and
cinnamon coated banana fritters with ginger confit and caramel ice
cream priced at £5.50 each. Savoro is fast making a name for
itself in part due to its range of home made ice creams which seem to
be universally praised by those who try them. Innovative flavours
include liquorice, tahini & sesame seed, bitter chocolate, coffee
& tobacco and oak smoked banana & chocolate chip. Green
apple, coconut and lemongrass sorbets complete the offering, with all
desserts priced at £5.50.
The food is
complemented by an extensive list of over 50 wines from around the
world including excellent quality house wines; Lonsdale Ridge
Colombard/Chardonnay and Shiraz/Cabernet are both priced at £14.
Limited edition premium wines from the cellar include a Chablis at
£24.50 and a 1997 Bordeaux at £60.
Savoro is
situated in a building steeped in history which has previously housed
an inn, a bakery, and during the 1950s one of the oldest Italian
restaurants in Hertfordshire.
