Bob Oatley's Wild Oats Takes Gold In London 25 years on from his first wine win, Bob Oatley's Wild Oats has taken out Gold with a 2005 Shiraz Viognier at this year's International Wine and Spirit Competition in London - arguably the most prestigious and certainly the longest running international wine competition of its kind. Wild Oats is the Oatley family's first range of wines under their new company banner: Oatley Wines, named in tribute to Bob Oatley's tremendously successful series of maxi yachts. The six wines; including the award winning Shiraz Viognier, a Chardonnay, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Merlot; have been on the Australian market for less than a year. The family's master vintner of more than 3 decades, Chris Hancock led the Oatley's team of young winemakers; James Manners, Trent Nankivell and Bec Kidd; to produce the winning vintage at the Oatley's winemaking home "Montrose" in Mudgee. "How significant that exactly 25 years on from our first gold medal win for a Chardonnay - at the same show - that put both the Oatley's and Australian wine on the international map; we're rewarded with gold again," Chris Hancock said.
