Curry Chef Is Second To Nan

Award-winning chef Syed Zohorul Islam is celebrating after achieving success in an international competition for the second year running.

Mr Islam, who is executive chef at The Capital restaurant in Claypath, Durham City, was one of five chefs who demonstrated their skills at the British Fusion Food Festival, in Bangladesh.

The event, organised by the magazine Curry Life, was held to launch a book of recipes that mix British and Asian culinary traditions.

Mr Islam, 43, who has been a chef for 30 years, won the British Fusion chef of the year award and also picked up an achievement award from Bangla Beer.

He impressed the judges with his dishes that included lamb chop with curried plum and coriander sauce, and Spanish lemon chicken.

"I am very proud with my achievement. There was some good competition,'' said Mr Islam.
