Bangladesh
has chosen renowned chef Tommy Miah to head its catering team at the
first South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Food
Festival in Delhi early next month.
Each member of
the team will have to cook three main courses each night of the
Festival, which is expected to attract thousands of visitors. In
addition, each chef will be allowed to cook a special recipe of his
own creation
Tommy
said he was proud to have been selected by the Bangladesh Foreign
Office to represent his homeland and would be cooking typical
Bangladeshi staple dishes, with the emphasis on Fish.
" I
will cook the special Salmon dish I created for the celebration
dinner given for Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond when he
regained leadership of the Scottish National Party,"
Edinburgh-based Tommy said.
Mr Salmond
said he was delighted at the selection for such a prestigious event
of someone whose cooking he had enjoyed for many years at his Raj
Restuarant in Edinburgh.
"I
wish Tommy Miah and his team every good wish at the South Asian
Association for Regional Cooperation's first Food Festival, and I
hope that the salmon dish he prepared to mark my return to the SNP
leadership will prove to be just as popular in Delhi as it was in Edinburgh,"
the First Minister said.
Mr
Salmond expressed concern at the recent flood disaster in Bangladesh,
adding: "We are all extremely conscious of the disaster that
has befallen Bangladesh, and our thoughts and condolences go out to
the Bangladeshi people as they seek to come to terms with the loss of
loved ones and rebuild communities."
