Now completed the venue combines lounge space, a formal dining area which can seat up to 150, and reception, providing customers with wireless internet access during the day and live music at night. The striking bar is made of composite stone and chocolate leather padding, combined with a continuous halo of light recessed into the bulkhead and LED colour changing lights that vary the ambiance throughout the day. The blend of smoked oak wood and cream porcelain floor tiles complement the bar creating cohesion throughout the restaurant. Elegant aluminium slat screens have been positioned to provide diners privacy, but still allow the restaurant as a whole to feel open and spacious. The use of dark wood furniture and introduction of bursts of ruby red leather give the restaurant a feel of warmth and elegance, whilst the dragon blue in the lounge distinguishes between the two areas, encompassing a chic combination of fixed seating, upholstered walls and chaise longue. A forest of bamboo cut from frosted vinyl has been designed to shade the sun from diners and provide a panoramic canvas of unique artwork. The raised decked area provides an additional dinning space over-looking the prestigious waterside location. Ketia Fong Wah, senior interior designer for Vector Design comments: 'This was a challenging brief. We have aimed to provide a contemporary but welcoming feel to the environment, which though very Asian inspired, is very different to the traditional take on a restaurant of this kind.' Owner, Steven Lee of The Basin Ltd said: 'The Basin is a unique experience that offers an uber trendy relaxed atmosphere. It caters for not only professionals, but families and students too. 'The overall design subtly hints at the orient without the need for formalities and tradition. Vector has provided a unique concept for The Basin that can be used as a footprint for future developments.' Vector DC, part of the Harris Group, worked closely with national architects and project managers The Harris Partnership. Nick Charlesworth a director at The Harris Partnership co-ordinated 'The Basin' team to deliver the project to completion.
