As the
nation prepares for National Toastie Week (10-14 November), a leading
flavoured and cooked meats producer has launched an Italian inspired filling.
York based About Foods developed
Beef Spezzatini after researching traditional European flavours to
add to its New Product Development ideas bank. It is based on an old
Tuscan dish where beef is cooked slowly with a blend of fresh herbs
and plum tomatoes to create a rich, deep flavour. About Foods
Operations and Innovations Director, Graham Smith explains; "Beef
Spezzatini is a melt in the mouth filling that can stand alone in a
sandwich or can carry more of the rich sauce to deliver a big hit in
a pannini."
Beef Spezzatini is one of a
number of high impact flavour combinations that About Foods has
created for the sandwich market including Shredded Duck in Marmalade
Jus, 'Not Just for Christmas' turkey shredded with sage and onion
stuffing and Smokey Pork in BBQ Sauce. Graham Smith explains the
significance of shredding to the flavour delivery; "Shredding
the protein and tumbling it with a marinade allows the flavour to
permeate deep into the meat, so you get a great taste from less
filling. Shredded meats are a very versatile and cost effective way
to fill a sandwich or add value to a salad."
