Maxxium UK
Presents Liquid War 2008

-Let Battle Commence -

Maxxium UK has confirmed which individuals have won their place in the most coveted competition in town - Liquid War 2008.

This year the competition seeks to answer the age-old question: Which is better, The North or The South? Top mixologists and flairtenders will be going into battle on 16th November at Glasgow's Merchant Square, to find out who are the best shakers and makers in the country.

The unique format sees bartenders competing both as a team and for individual honours. Bartenders fight it out in the flair and mixology categories to win amazing trips to the Dominican Republic, home of Brugal rum, plus cash prizes; and all the scores add together to decide the team prize: an all-expenses paid team trip to the BOLS Bartending Academy in Amsterdam for the winning side.

Liquid War 2008 forms part of Maxxium UK's Mixxit programme. Its aim is to promote and educate bartenders and consumers on the importance of quality mixed drinks. This theme continues throughout the contest with competitors being judged on their knowledge and creativity.

Brand sponsorship for the competition comes from Brugal rum, BOLS and Galliano - brands whose investment in on-trade excellence demonstrates their recognition of the importance of the trade. The whole competition is organised and run by LA bartenders, who first started the Liquid War 6 years ago.

Running a discerning eye over proceedings will be an expert panel of judges: Wayne Collins, Ian Burrell, Ago Peron and Maxxium Director Huw Pennell and the hosts will be Andy and Scott Gemmell

This year saw the introduction of a new online entry system allowing applicants from all over the UK to prove their abilities by submitting a unique cocktail. The cocktails were then recreated by the mixology team in Maxxium's in-house bar - The Mixxing Room. The top ten from each region that impressed the most won a coveted place to represent their people in the North v South Battle of Britain.

The Flair Heats were held at the Bar Wizards Academy for the south and the LA bartenders training academy in Glasgow for the North, with six from from each region going forward.

The final will take place on 16th November 2008 in Merchant Square, Glasgow where it is expected that up to 5,000 people will be there to experience the excitement of the UK's most dynamic cocktail competition. Alongside the frenzied action of the competition itself, revellers will be entertained by DJs - making this the ultimate event in the bartending calendar
