'Material Girl' Helps To Boost Greenwich & Bexley Hospice Funds

Madonna tribute Mitch Stevenson provided a witty and saucy cabaret on behalf of Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice at their fund-raising evening hosted by Spice Master Restaurant at 45/47 Nuxley Road, Belvedere, Kent on Monday 11th September.

Beginning and ending her act in Madonna's signature corset, fishnet tights and black ankle boots Mitch sang Madonna's most popular songs, including 'Material Girl' when she donned an embroidered black bustier and net skirt emblazoned with a variety of sequinned symbols. The artiste enlivened her performance as she drew both unsuspecting waiters and Hospice Board members onto the restaurant stage to dance with her, eliciting much amusement from other diners.

It was an unusual Board outing for the Hospice team, which included Joint Chief Executive Jim Bennett; Peter Butler, Head of Fundraising and Development; Dr Brendan O'Neill, Consultant in Palliative Medicine; Jenny Matthews, Human Resources Manager ;Susan Adams, Community Fundraiser; and Sue Smyth, Publicity Services and Chief Executive's P.A.

Raffle prizes included a bottle of whisky won by Denise Thomas of Belvedere; a case of artist's materials, which Louise Thomason of Bexleyheath won; while Hazel Whybrow of Belvedere scooped a large cuddly toy dog.

A total of £357 was raised from a proportion of dinner takings and the raffle to assist the hospice, which is the largest charity within the two neighbouring boroughs, to continue its sterling work in caring for those residents of Greenwich and Bexley who are suffering from life-limiting illnesses.
