Thirty one
convictions have been obtained in the year since Tower Hamlets
Council launched a hard-hitting bye-law banning touting outside
restaurants in the Curry Capital of Brick Lane.
Touts can be
fined up to £500.
Now the Town
Hall are looking at tackling businesses employing the touts.
Restaurants could face penalties of up to £3,500.
The Town Hall
crackdown followed numerous complaints about touts causing a
nuisance, obstructing, harassing and intimidating people while trying
to lure them with promises of cheap meal deals.
Cllr Abdal
Ullah, Lead member for a Cleaner, Safer, Greener borough, said: "We
are pleased with the progress made. The majority of restaurants have
stuck to the law. We have a number of cases awaiting court dates so
touts and the businesses that employ them should be very wary.''
