Ecklas Ali
and Mokbul Ali, owners of the Jalsha Tandoori Restaurant at Station
Road, Sidcup hosted their first Charity Cabaret Dinner on Tuesday
25th September, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Bexley,
Councillor Nick O'Hare and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Maria O'Hare, to raise
funds for Bexley Moorings Project, a charity that has been helping
Bexley's disadvantaged young people for over 25 years.
Entertainment
was provided by Abba Divine, one of the most authentic female ABBA
duos who create a close likeness to ABBA's vocals, wear exact
replicas of original costumes, and use ABBA's own choreography. There
was a raffle and auction, with tempting prizes such as an overnight
stay for 2 at the award-winning Rowhill Grange Hotel in Hextable, a
London Multi-Choice Voucher for 2, a Jalsha Dinner for 2, and a
Hamper of Kingfisher Premium Lager. The amount raised, from a
proportion of Dinner takings plus the raffle and auction, was £665.
Established in
1981, Bexley Moorings Project celebrated its 25th Anniversary last
year. Originally based at Crook Log, Bexleyheath, the registered
Charity is now based at Royal Park Primary School, Sidcup. The
Project provides effective support within Bexley Borough to
vulnerable young people aged 8-17 whose problems can include material
or emotional deprivation, physical, emotional or sexual abuse, social
isolation, bullying, dysfunctional families, or caring for siblings
who have disabilities or life illness.
Using
volunteer befrienders, a peer mentor scheme and a weekly club, plus
short holiday breaks and residential trips with an educational
content, Bexley Moorings Project encourages young people to develop
self-esteem and confidence in a supportive and non-competitive
environment. With the help of Social Services and education
professionals, the Project's aim is to help these most disadvantaged
or difficult-to-engage young people to fully integrate into the community.
