Two Arrested In Raid On Curry House

Immigration officers have arrested two men after raiding a Neath curry house.A team from the Border and Immigration Agency surrounded the Simla Brasserie Tandoori Restaurant on Alfred Street after a tip-off.

After checking the documents of staff, a Bangladeshi man, aged 28, and an Indian man were taken to Neath Police Station for questioning. The Bangladeshi man has already been deported, and the agency is taking steps to remove the second illegal worker from the UK.

The Simla Brasserie has been hit with a warning and, in the event of a repeat, could face prosecution.

The agency's regional director for Wales and the South West, Jane Farleigh, said officers were cracking down on people working illegally and the businesses which employed them.

She added: "We are taking a robust approach to tracking down people who have no right to be here, and are removing them from the UK.

"Many employers work with us to ensure that they only employ legal workers, but for those employers who do not take this issue seriously, our message is simple - if you employ illegal workers, you could be named and shamed and face criminal charges." The operation in Neath comes at a time of major reform to the immigration system.

Nobody at the Simla Brasserie was available for comment.
