THE GREAT WINE SWINDLE by Malcolm Gluck
published by Gibson Square on 3 November 2008
Price £14.99 hardback
ISBN-10: 190614222X

Malcolm Gluck, author of Superplonk, aims at those that refuse to be intimidated by name dropping, vintages or snobbery in their wine choice. In this explosive, very readable book he exposes the tricks the wine trade uses to cash in on the gullibility and timidity of the public and the fear of some wine experts to speak about consumer abuse in the industry. Gluck accuses supermarkets of labelling and promotional deceptions and wine merchants of hoodwinking consumers with undisclosed chemical additives. He cheers boxed wine, pours scorn on absurd advertising campaigns and questions the sanity of those encouraging high alcohols in wine. Even champagne come in for some Gluck-bashing and wine fans at all levels should find this work entertaining and informative.
