16th National Curry Week hits the spot

The 16th National Curry Week sponsored by Pataks, Sainsburys and hungryhouse.co.uk finished on 13th October amidst a flurry of excitement over curry orientated events, challenges and private diner parties.

In a year that saw several innovations the most oustanding was the world's first ever Poppadomathon to raise money for charity The first ever Poppadomathon was run in Bradford on 7th October 2013 by a team of Air Cadets. The whole team covered 47,300 metres (29.4 miles) in the 30 minutes allocated. The winning team were Colonel Geldart & cadest Sewell, Brown, Lyons and Jones who averaged an amazing 13.5 seconds for the 100m legs and the fastest individual was Alex Toth-Jones with a speedy 13.3 seconds.

The attempt was adjudicated by Jordan Green, Matthew Myers, Tyler Booth, Aaron Booth, Breet Gray, Mel Bunyan and Georgia Freshwater. The event was organised by Raf from Kiplings in Greengates, Bradford and raised a fantastic £183.50 for charity.

Organiser Peter Grove said "It is amazing how the event grows every year. We are certainly fulfilling the first aim of celebrating curry but it is too early to give any data on the second aim of raising money for charity. The official charity this year is Find Your Feet but many curry fans and restaurants have their own local charity to support so working out the national amount raised is almost impossible. Well done to everyone involved".
