The 60th Anniversary of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne

 

 

Outside the venue at the Royal Lancaster, London on Sunday the 16th July 2006 the Thai and Union Jack flags were flying high together with the flag of His Majesty The King's 60th Anniversary emblem.

Inside, members of the Thai community, together with friends had gathered there to dine, with the intention of raising funds towards His Majesty the King's charities, in a tribute and to celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibhol Adulyadej's 60th Anniversary Accession to the throne.

The event generated a huge response with all tickets sold out, over 600 guests attended this black tie event including His Excellency Dr Vikrom Koompirochana The Thai Ambassador to the UK.

The evening began at 6pm with Singha Light and Sabai pre-dinner drinks in the foyer of Nine Kings Suite accompanied by softly playing classical Thai string music. During which the guests were able to preview the gifts to be auctioned, kindly donated by members of the Thai UK business community.

The Klong Yao (long drum) performed by the Thai Dance Academy led the guests into the grand dining room followed by Thai dancing using traditional puppets to tell a classical story. Throughout the Thai dinner guests were entertained with a variety of celebrities, brought over from Thailand, courtesy of Thai Airways International. The evening was hosted by Khun Tuk Yanee, Khun Miaw Pawanrat, Khun Mam Surivipa. Later, in the evening the guests were serenaded by the sweet voice of Khun Yaya Ying and Thailand's legendary diva Khun Tu Nantida.

Throughout the evening the gorgeous Thai Square girls sold raffle tickets, "I Love the King" wristbands and beautiful orchids to raise money for the Kings charities.

The highlight of the evening was the charity auction which was hosted by London's famous DJ Pat Sharp, where a signed England football shirt, donated by Singha Beer, fetched an outstanding £4,700!

Pat Sharp did a splendid job as the auction alone raised a total of £18,890.

The grand total raised from the evening was a magnificent £44,000 and all proceeds from this event are to be presented to the Kings Project's charity fund.
