Award winning
noodle restaurant chain Wagamama has confirmed that their first
opening in the USA will be in central Boston in spring 2007 according
to recent reports.
The London
based company have chosen the historic Faneuil Hall for the first
opening which is located adjacent to the popular Faneuil Hall
marketplace, also known as Quincy Market, famous for its shopping and dining.
Boston was
selected for the first restaurant in the USA as the demographics of
the city suit the Wagamama brand and in addition, thousands of
American visitors to the UK have confirmed Boston as ideal for the
initial launch.
Unlike all
other non UK Wagamama restaurants which operate under a franchise
agreement, the restaurants in the USA will remain wholly owned from
the UK. The restaurant will be designed by a local team from Gensler,
an international design agency and will have 133 seats inside with
additional seating for 50 outside
The menu will
essentially remain the same as the UK including the core favourites-
ramen, chicken katsu and yaki soba alongside some dishes created
exclusively for the USA.
A second
location on JFK Street, Harvard Square will open in summer 2007 with
132 seats.
Steve Hill,
Wagamama CEO said '' we have been working towards this for 12 months
and we are therefore very encouraged to have signed 2 great locations
which represents a major move forward in respect of our future plans
for expansion in the USA.. The feedback to date has been fantastic
and we are optimistic about the future potential for these sites. We
are now working towards identifying a third location in Boston and
thereafter will look to expand further throughout the east coast''
There are
currently 65 Wagamama restaurants. 43 in the UK. 22 international inc
Australia, NZ, Dubai and Europe.
