The heat
was on in The Tabasco® British Oyster Opening Championship
recently where 15 hopefuls battled it out for the British title.
Fredrik
Lindfors of Wilton's Restaurant, Jermyn Street was celebrating yet
again as he was awarded first place for opening and perfectly
presenting 30 native oysters in 4 minutes 11 seconds.
Frederik will
be competing in Galway later this month in the International Oyster
opening Championship hoping to beat off professional shuckers from
all corners of the world.
The
Tabasco® Championship becomes increasingly popular each year and
the 'shucking' standard keeps getting higher. This year saw Paco
Escabar from Selfridge's Oyster Bar, London come a very close second
with only two seconds between him and Fredrik - certainly one to
watch out for next year. Third place was given to Martin Kroon from
The Cat and Mutton, East London who came 7th last year so had clearly
been putting in plenty of practice. New contender Ladoslav Baszo from
Riddle and Fins Oyster Company tied with Mike Dawson from West Mersea
Oyster suppliers in fourth place.
Guests
ventured into the spirit of the occasion and celebrated the start of
the native oyster season in style with copious quantities of Mumm
Champagne, Rossmore oysters and of course Tabasco® Pepper Sauce.
