Carluccio's Captures
The Authentic Taste Of Piemonte
In Its Caffès and Autumn Market

From 8th September to 26th October, visitors to Carluccio's will have the opportunity to discover the rich culinary traditions of the food and wine from Italy's Piemonte region. One of the most productive regions of North-West Italy, Piemonte is world-famous not only for its cuisine, but also for its history, Baroque art and architecture.

Carluccio's guests are invited to experience this delectable cuisine in all its caffès. Recipes include sumptuous dishes such as:

* Antipasto Piemontese (salami and mortadella, roast pepper with bagna cauda and olives, £6.95)

* Vitello Tonnato (roast veal topside, thinly sliced, served with caper and tuna mayonnaise, £6.75)

  Main dishes during this regional celebration will focus on mushrooms, truffles, and wine. For example:

* Tagliolino di tartufo (pasta in a truffle butter sauce, £7.95)

* Lasagnetta con porcini (vegetarian baked lasagna with layers of porcini mushrooms and bechamel sauce, £7.50)

* Risotto al vino rosso (creamy red wine risotto, £9.25)

The main courses are perfectly well suited to Piemonte's renowned wines. The region's dominant grape, the Nebbiolo, is grown in the vineyards of Alba (South of Piemonte). From this grape, winemakers produced Barolo, a dark red, warm and full-bodied wine; the perfect accompaniment to any autumn dish.

For white wines, Gavi is the leading D.O.C.G. It is dry and fresh making it also an ideal aperitif wine. As a feature of its autumn market, Carluccio's offers bottles from a great Piemonte producer, Fontanafredda, featuring both Barolo (75cl £21.00) and Gavi di Gavi (75cl £10.50).

 Other Piemonte regional specialities will be available for take away in the foodshop. Guests wishing to recreate the delicious dishes on offer in the caffè can make them at home for friends and family. They need only use the delicate Tagliolini al tartufo (250g £7.95) served with a simple spoon of Salsa di Funghi e Tartufi (80g £4.95), a creamy mushroom and truffle sauce. Burro al tartufo (80g £4.75), truffle butter is also for sale to flavour delicate sauces or spread on good Italian bread.

Carnaroli risotto rice, typically from the Vercelli area, is in store at Carluccio's all year round (1kg £4.95). Bricioloni (60g £6.25), pieces of dry Porcini mushrooms, can be used to create the perfect autumn risotto. The recipe for a mushroom risotto will be featured in the Piemonte leaflet available in all stores, downloadable from the website, and unveiled with plenty of secrets and other recipes that can be found in The Complete Mushroom Book by Antonio Carluccio (£14.99).

Desserts, biscuits and sweet delicacies complete the Piemontese meal. The counters of Carluccio's deli will be brimming with boxes for sale, such as:

* buttery Torcetti (430g £5.95)

* soft almond based Amaretti (250g £6.50)

* light hazelnut meringue Spumini (130g £3.25)

* hazelnut and chocolate Baci di Dama (200g £.3.25).

 Interestingly, it is claimed that solid chocolate was first created in Piemonte's capital Torino. Visitors to Carluccio's foodshop will find Hazelnut chocolate bars (75g £1.95), Porcini di cioccolato (150g £5.95), a selection of mushroom shaped chocolates, and Carluccio's classic Grissini Ricoperti (250g £6.95) breadsticks covered in chocolate - simply delicious!

Mercato D'Autunno (Autumn Market) Carluccio's traditional open-air markets will once again create the atmosphere of a bustling Italian market allowing customers to discover the best seasonal products and the best methods for home preparation. A wide selection of fresh wild and cultivated mushrooms and truffle grocery products will be available; essential ingredients to create delicious autumn dishes and authentic Italian street food. All these products will be used in most of the caffès recipes during the regional celebration, to help educate customers on how to choose, combine and cook them at home.

The Autumn Markets will be held at the following caffès:

* 13th and 14th September 2008: 1 Jubilee Street, Brighton, BN1 1GE

* 25th and 26th September: Spitalfields, 27 Spital Square, London, E1 6DZ
