Cosmo To Land In Cardiff's Mermaid Quay

Emerging pan-Asian restaurant "super-brand" Cosmo is to open a £1 million, 10,000 sq ft, 300-cover flagship at Mermaid Quay, the top retail and leisure destination located on Cardiff Waterfront.

Cosmo will launch its new "second generation" restaurant format at Mermaid Quay. Larger (10,000 sq ft plus) and fitted out to a higher specification than previous outlets, the new-style Cosmo will feature a great quality, traditional Asian menu with more than 150 dishes from China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Mongolia, India and Vietnam.

Cosmo Group, creators of the concept, is investing more than £1 million to deliver a stylish, contemporary eating environment at Mermaid Quay. Highly-trained Teppanyaki chefs manning nine `live` cooking stations located within the main restaurant will provide a theatrical feast for diners, transforming fresh ingredients into sizzling dishes on demand. The upmarket, modern interior décor is being bespoke -designed in Asia to provide an authentic eating experience.

The real surprise is the price. Cosmo has not yet confirmed prices for Cardiff yet but is considering a set weekend dinner at £13.99 including unlimited soft drinks and a lunch menu at just £6.99 including unlimited soft drinks. Cosmo manages to deliver amazing value and choice - with an extensive buffet as well as a deli & sushi bar, noodle & dim sum bar plus delicious desserts ranging from traditional Asian delicacies to the ever popular chocolate fountain.

Cosmo opened its first outlet in Eastbourne in 2003 and has since grown into a chain of eight successful restaurants, primarily located in the South East of England. It is now planning to evolve the overall quality of the brand with the opening of the new-style restaurants.

Commenting on the letting at Mermaid Quay, Cosmo MD Tom Chan said:

"Cardiff is a fantastic capital city and Mermaid Quay's prime, waterfront position and status as an established, successful dining destination, make it ideal for the first of our new-style Cosmo restaurants. The location has a size and quality of catchment better than any other we have looked at. We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to opening early next year."

Peter Cooper, head of retail leasing at Schroders (owner of Mermaid Quay) commented: "We are delighted to welcome Cosmo. We researched their offer carefully and are confident that their second-generation restaurants fit the Mermaid Quay business model perfectly. We believe that they will compliment our existing restaurant line up which already includes Strada, Pizza Express, wagamama, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Café Rouge as well as an extensive list of well-known local operators.

"The letting of this high profile unit leaves us with just one unit - comprising 1,165 sq ft - available at Mermaid Quay and, despite the current economic climate, this is attracting a lot of interest from potential occupiers."
