Cobra Backs The National Curry Week 2009 Call For Support From Restaurants Throughout The Country

Registration for National Curry Week (22nd - 28th November 2009) has now opened and is available to all curry restaurants, caterers, schools and canteens in Britain. Coinciding with registration opening comes the news that Cobra, undoubtedly the best known beer brand in the sector, has signed up as Headline Sponsor for the next two years

This will be the 11th year of the event which exists to promote the cuisine and raise funds for charity. 2009 sees several breaks from the past for the event, the main one of which is the break from raising funds for charities such as Oxfam and Action Against Hunger. Instead, organiser Peter Grove has founded The Curry Tree Charitable Fund to be overseen by Trustees Cyrus Todiwala MBE, DL ; Rajesh Suri ; Enam Ali MBE ; Gulu Anand ; Mridula Baljekar ; Prem Singh ; Colleen Grove and Shamin Hoque.

National Curry Week will target the 23 million people who eat curry out of the home each year and seek a minimum of £1 per person from them. Restaurants can help by signing up and displaying the material to have £1 added to each bill for The Curry Tree.

The funds that this is expected to generate will not only go to worthy causes on the sub-continent but, for the first time, 50% will go to the education and upskilling of staff in Asian restaurants to help alleviate the present staffing problems.

"We really need the support of every Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani/Nepalese and Sri Lankan restaurant in UK, " says organiser Peter Grove. "Not only will participating increase their footfall during the week but they will be helping raise funds to ensure the industry grows and develops for the future."

All members of the public donating will have free access to a turning pages ebook called "Recipes For Success 2009" valued at £5.99 containing 48 pages of recipes from top chefs in UK, USA, India and Thailand.

Registration is completely free and can be done via the website www.nationalcurryweek.co.uk or direct to Peter Grove on groveint@aol.com.
